Yes, I know, it sounds succulent, mouthwatering, and sensuous, but I am not just talking about pork barbecue and coleslaw. You’re not far off though. I am starting this web log to write about my favorite things, to have a means of conveniently saving and sharing the many interesting and useful things I read, find, learn, observe, and hear about, and to learn more about the social and networking aspects of blogging.
By SLOW, I mean things like the Slow Food movement, Oldways Trust, and Community Gardens, which are, in fact, not slow at all…By LOCAL, I mean small farms, farmers’ markets, community gardens, community supported agriculture, artisanal products, heirloom vegetables, seed savers’ exchanges, the old neighborhood, the hometown team, the mom and pop business...By AUTHENTIC, I mean history and heritage, a unique sense of place or character, arts, music, culture, and favorite recipes, to name just a few...I will also feature things about CREATIVE, ENTREPRENEURIAL and GREEN activities, particularly as they apply to downtown revitalization, place-making and historic buildings.
I will probably combine the personal and professional, because I find these aspects of my life are increasingly inseparable. Much of what I write will focus on my eclectic passions: preserving, protecting, and enhancing community character, historic preservation and planning, historic architecture, community organizing, libraries, information technology, eating well, enjoying family and friends, fine food and wine, reading, writing, photography, arts, culture and history, listening to music, traveling, walking….you get the picture. I am writing mainly for myself, but you are welcome to tag along and your (polite) comments, suggestions, referrals, observations, and good humor will be appreciated and enjoyed.

P.S. This blog is the successor to my RPI BCon blog from which relevant posts may be republished here. I am doing this in my spare time, so it will be a little while before it is fully developed.
